“NEW.. Reliability Road Run”
South Mimms to Stamford Bridge (York)
Mr Mark Phillips & Curiosity Moto.
To enter the Great Wold - Valley Run, Sunday 22nd... please use the link.
The Great Wold - Valley Run traverses an area currently being proposed by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council for recognition by the UK government and designation for its outstanding beauty.
Our run will begin in the village of Stamford Bridge and entrants and visitors are encouraged to book yourselves a weekend ‘staycation’ in the area and avail yourselves of the delights around the village including The Heritage Centre, with the recently completed 1066 Stamford Bridge Tapestry located within The Old Railway Station. The railway viaduct is a fantastic piece of the remaining village heritage architecture and worthy of a close inspection. The village is well served with its array of shops, pubs, cafes & restaurants.
I personally recommend York for those who wish a City style weekend break and especially a trip to the fabulous York Minster. (which is also our destination for Ride - Retro in the Autumn)
Important Notice for all our inaugural Great Wold - Valley Run entrants, when you arrive at our departure area in Stamford Bridge you will receive our old school directions to Burton Fleming, a map!!!
Arrivals can be accepted at Stamford Bridge from 8.30 (if someone’s awake) and will be greeted and parked by our marshals. Signage will be displayed for the assembly area.
Departure of all our vehicles will be from 10.00 - 10.30 and the slowest vehicles will be given priority.
A lead vehicle has recently been accepted and under no circumstances should it be overtaken (apart from a breakdown) It’s big and bad and will hopefully offer a presence to all other road users.
This Great Wold - Valley Run is a sociable day out and NOT A RACE, rather it is a combination of the early twentieth century motor reliability road trials and an appreciation of simpler times, when folk explored areas away from home with their basic transport. I have ridden and driven our chosen route many times and at speed too but as age increases I find, cruising these quiet rural routes deliver a far greater satisfaction with the interesting vistas and accompanying features such as the Gypsy Race steam, various monuments and the natural surrounding beauty.
Dress code... Ladies & Gentlemen please... no camouflage or hi - viz clothing. We pride ourselves with the quality heritage motoring images which we create for both yourselves and our audience too. Where possible we also like to see lots of smiling faces too therefore, if possible. please wear open face helmets on your motorcycles. Drivers with open-top cars, if possible. please bring an open face helmet in your luggage. It may be useful for the second part of our run.
The village of Burton Fleming is an obvious choice for our lunch break and their rural community have warmly welcomed our initiative. Please be respectful to our wonderful lunchtime hosts and give as generously as possible to their local causes. Burton Fleming is documented as early as 1066AD and notably as a fortified farmstead.
The 2nd half of our route and further instructions will be distributed at the Burton Fleming lunch break, therefore entrants please make sure you ask one of our Oily Tyke marshals for your copy.
Please bear in mind our Oily Tyke marshals and event supporters are friendly and helpful volunteers with a keen interest in most things historical & mechanical. Respect to all is paramount at our BACKFIRE Promotions events, rudeness will not be tolerated.
I’m personally looking forward to a cracking day out in ‘Gods Own County’ with the very best of company.
Keep safe and see you in Stamford Bridge.
